SIMPSON HALL MILLER & CO. TEA AND COFFEE SET - WALLINGFORD, CT. TREMBLE PLATEHere is an incredible Simpson Hall Miller & Co. tea and coffee set. The set consists of a coffee pot, tea pot, creamer, sugar bowl with lid and spooner. Each piece has the most beautiful Lilly of the Valley etching on the front and back. There are some minor imperfections due to the age of the pieces, though it does not distract from the beauty of the set. In fact, it increases the charm of the set. The finials on the pieces and the stylish handles are very attractive and unusual for the time period they were manufactured.
The Simpson Hall Miller & Co. was a cutlery and silver hollowware manufacturer in Wallingford, CT., founded in 1866. By 1865, the company operated large factories in Wallingford and Montreal, CA. In 1898, Simpson became part of the International Silver Company headquartered in neighboring Meriden, CT. Many designs have been collected by American museums including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Yale University Art Gallery. The designs have been widely exhibited and in particular at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. The company was awarded first prize medal competing with 44 other silver manufacturers from the US and Europe at the Melbourne International Exhibition in Australia.
